A garbage disposal that hums but doesn’t spin, leaks from the bottom, or won’t turn on at all can bring your kitchen routine to a halt.
Stars and Pipes Plumbing Atlanta diagnoses and repairs garbage disposal issues for homeowners in Gwinnett County and the surrounding Atlanta metro area, and replaces units that are beyond repair.

Common Garbage Disposal Problems
A disposal that hums without spinning usually has a jammed flywheel, often caused by a bone fragment, utensil, or hard food item stuck between the impellers and the shred ring.
Leaks from the bottom of the unit typically indicate a failed internal seal, which means the disposal needs replacement. Leaks from the top flange or dishwasher connection can often be repaired by tightening or resealing the connection.
If the disposal won’t power on at all and resetting the button on the bottom doesn’t help, the issue could be electrical or the motor may have burned out.
What We Do
We determine whether the issue is mechanical, electrical, or a seal failure, and either repair or replace the unit based on what makes sense.
For jams, we clear the obstruction and test the motor. For leaks at the flange or dishwasher connection, we reseal or retighten as needed.
If the motor is burned out or the unit has an internal seal failure, we’ll replace it during the same visit.
